Cameron Norrie is relishing the opportunity of representing Team Great Britain at the ATP Cup, where he realises he’ll be a marked man.

After a great 2021 season, which included a rise to a career-high No. 12 in the FedEx ATP Rankings and two ATP Tour titles, Norrie admitted in Sydney on Friday, “A lot of the time last year, I was being the underdog, going out and hunting those guys. Whereas now, I think, some of the time, it's going to be people hunting me.

“The pressure only gets more, but I'm looking forward to it. feel good physically and [I'm] excited to kick off the year in such a great team event.”

Great Britain will compete in Group C alongside Germany, Canada and the United States, meaning that 26-year-old Norrie, as the No. 1 singles player, will face Alexander Zverev, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Taylor Fritz in his matches.

“I think these are exactly the matches I want to be playing leading into the Australian Open, and no better way to do it,” said Norrie. “It's going to be tough, but [I’m] really looking forward to it… I think I'm feeling good physically. [I'm] really enjoying my tennis. That's been a big factor. [I’m] really looking forward to hopefully backing it up again next year.”

Norrie competed at the inaugural ATP Cup in January 2020, ranked World No. 53, and helped Great Britain reach the quarter-finals with a 2-2 record in his singles matches.

Daniel Evans, who beat David Goffin, Alex de Minaur and Radu Albot at the ATP Cup two years ago, is enjoying the build-up and is solely focused on the team’s first match against Germany on Sunday.

“It's been good to be around the guys,” said Evans. “It's a different event, and you can have a lot more fun being around teammates. Normally, you're very selfish and looking after your own preparations, but it's cool to see everybody else out there getting ready. We're all in it as one this week.”

Joe Salisbury and Jamie Murray both feature in the Top 20 of the FedEx ATP Doubles Rankings and will join forces in Sydney.

“I think we all had a great time two years ago when we were here,” said Murray, who went 2-2 in doubles matches with Salisbury at the 2020 ATP Cup. “Aussies love their sport. We had some big matches, like [when] we played against Australia. That was a fun atmosphere.”

Salisbury added, “There's a good chance that some of [the ties] will come down to the doubles and be won after the singles. We'll be ready for that. It's nice to be playing in a situation [with] some big matches.”
