Netizens troll Aakash Chopra after he becomes victim of a financial fraud
Aakash Chopra, the former Indian cricketer and a renowned commentator, found himself at the center of a financial fraud case, prompting him to lodge a First Information Report (FIR). Chopra, who filed the FIR under IPC section 406 (criminal breach of trust), accused shoe businessman Kamlesh Parikh and his son Dhruv Parikh of duping him of INR 57.8 lakh in connection with a shoe business investment.

Investment agreement gone awry

The case report filed by Chopra revealed that he had entrusted INR 57.8 lakh to Dhruv for an investment in the shoe business. An agreement was made, stipulating that the amount, along with a 20% profit, would be returned within 30 days. However, more than a year later, less than half of the invested money had been returned to the former cricketer.

“We entered into a formally notarized agreement which stipulated that Dhruv was to return the money within 30 days with a 20% profit, and post-dated cheques were provided for recovery. However, a year later, only Rs 24.5 lakh has been returned, and two issued cheques were dishonored,” stated Chopra in his FIR.

“I spoke to Dhruv’s father, Kamlesh, and he promised to honor the agreement on his son’s behalf but failed to do so. Legal notices were served, but both father and son ceased communication, making the recovery of the principal amount, Rs 33.3 lakh, a challenge,” added Chopra.

Repeat offenders

The Parikh family’s involvement in cheating cricketers is not a unique occurrence. In February, cricketer Deepak Chahar‘s father had also filed a cheating complaint against the same duo. Jaya Bhardwaj, the wife of the Indian fast bowler, had alleged that the Parikhs had deceived her of INR 10 lakh in connection with a business venture.

Several social media users shared humorous responses to Chopra’s unfortunate situation. Memes and witty comments flooded the internet, reflecting the creative and sometimes sarcastic nature of online humor. While the situation is undoubtedly serious, the online community showcased its ability to find humour even in distressing circumstances.
